Refurbishment of Offshore Dive Chambers: A Successful Partnership with Dri Ice Global and Specialist Painting Group

In January 2017, Specialist Painting Group (SPG) collaborated with Dri Ice Global to complete the refurbishment of seven offshore dive chambers aboard a fleet vessel docked in Frederikshavn, Denmark. The project was commissioned by an offshore and marine service provider facing the challenge of localised corrosion and degradation of the existing coating system within confined spaces of the dive chambers.

Due to the constraints of working within tight, enclosed environments, traditional surface preparation methods were not viable. To overcome this challenge, SPG employed high-intensity CO2 blasting, a cutting-edge technique designed to efficiently remove existing coatings, corrosion products, and surface contaminants. This innovative blasting process proved ideal for the confined space conditions, ensuring a thorough and effective cleaning.

Once the surfaces were properly prepared, SPG applied a two-component, solvent-free, modified polyamine-cured epoxy system, providing a durable and protective coating for the dive chambers. This comprehensive approach not only restored the integrity of the dive chambers but also ensured they were fully operational for the offshore vessel’s continued service.

By utilizing advanced technologies and expert craftsmanship, Dri Ice Global and SPG successfully completed the refurbishment, enhancing the performance and longevity of the offshore dive chambers while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards.
