Volkerstevin Secures Flood Defence Contract for Wixoe Pumping Station, Suffolk
Specialist Painting Group (SPG) has recently secured the critical flood defence contract for the Wixoe Pumping Station in Suffolk. This key project required the mechanical preparation of eight mild steel guide channels that house the sluice gates of the pumping station. As part of the work, the project site was drained, and two temporary sluice gates were installed to effectively manage the flow of water from the reservoir and adjacent watercourse.
Throughout the project, a temporary water pump was placed at the base of the working environment to continually remove water that leaked into the dry working area. SPG implemented an innovative mechanical preparation technique, achieving a recognised blast profile, ensuring the highest standard of surface preparation.
The project’s specified coating system featured a modified two-component epoxy designed to be applied to wet surfaces, allowing it to continue curing even while submerged in water. This unique solution is ideal for challenging flood defence applications, offering long-lasting protection for the pumping station infrastructure.
SPG’s expertise in flood defence systems and innovative surface preparation techniques reinforces their position as a trusted leader in the field of industrial coatings.
